Water of Leith

Many of us look for peace and tranquillity as we walk and if this is the case, look no further than the 12-mile Water of Leith walkway. The walkway runs from Balerno High School to Leith and it will take around 5 hours to walk the whole 12 miles.  Leaving the city behind, you can leave or join this walk at any point along its stretch so it makes a pleasant way of getting from one part of the city to another.

If you only have time for a short section of it, opt for the beauty and charm of the route from Stockbridge to Dean Village. The twists and turns of the walkway at this stretch will take you through the landmarks of St Bernard’s Well and the impressive Dean Bridge. Other interesting sites can be found along the length of the walkway, including Dunstane Houses, Colinton Village, Saughton Winter Gardens, and the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art. There is also some great wildlife that live along it, including eighty different bird species. The river is a popular fishing spot, with trout, pike and grayling hiding in its waters.
