Milton of Crathes is an award-winning station which marks the starting point of the Royal Deeside Railway – a heritage line taking passengers along a one-mile stretch of the track which, prior to closing in 1966, would regularly transport members of the Royal Family to Balmoral Castle. Located on the banks of the River Dee, just south of Crathes Castle outside of Banchory, the station building itself was originally situated at Oldmeldrum. However, threatened by imminent collapse, Deeside Railway applied for it to be dismantled and moved to Milton of Crathes, where it was rebuilt in 2015.
