Royal Deeside Railway

Opened to pay homage to the former railway line which connected Aberdeen with Ballater between 1853 and 1966, Royal Deeside Railway is a heritage service run by volunteers. When it was fully operational, the line was famous for transporting members of the Royal Family and other VIPs to Balmoral Castle. Today, steam and diesel trains take passengers on a one-mile stretch of track, starting at the award-winning Milton of Crathes station. A number of Victorian railway carriages are currently in the process of being restored in order to join the Royal Deeside Railway’s rolling stock.
