Found just a couple of miles to the north west of Glasgow city centre, Partick – known in Gaelic as Partaig – was a village in its own right until the mid-18th century, but has been in existence since at least 1136. The birthplace of comedian Billy Connelly, Partick is today known as one of Glasgow’s most eclectic and hippest neighbourhoods, in part due to its large student population. The area is home to Riverside Museum, The Tall Ship and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, along with other popular attractions and landmarks. Partick also hosted the first ever international football match, when Scotland played England in 1872 at the West of Scotland Cricket Club.
