Sluggan Bridge

Just west of Carrbridge in the north of Cairngorms National Park, Sluggan Bridge crosses the River Dulnain and is a lovely spot for a walk, picnic and photographs.

The stone bridge may be more modern than Carrbridge’s iconic Old Packhorse Bridge, but it’s no less attractive, although its history is somewhat sketchy. Various reports detail different dates of construction and reconstruction. Believed to have been built as part of a military road by George Wade in the 18th century, reports suggest it was rebuilt following the floods of 1829, while others record that it was left undamaged by the same floods.

Either way, the current Sluggan Bridge is certainly a reconstruction, now with just one single arch instead of the two-arch bridge which once spanned the River Dulnain on the same site.
