Hell’s Lum near Cullykhan Bay

Also named Deil’s Lum, this ominous-sounding spot is a collapsed sea cave accessed through a gaping hole in the cliffs over Cullykhan Bay. Gazing down into the deep pit is enough to explain the name – and that is without witnessing it under stormy conditions. When the wind blows furiously enough, the white frothy sea bursts forth from the opening like a dragon’s roar (or smoke from a lum!). Thankfully, accessing the cave is not as hellish as the name suggests, as fierce Aberdonian gales have carved a tunnel easily traversable all the way to the coastline.
