Saint Columba’s Well is believed to date back to Pictish times. In 6th century AD the water here was thought to be poisonous, causing boils and ulcers if splashed on the skin. In AD 565 St Columba, chased away the evil spirits around the well and blessed the water coming from it for eternity. The water was then clean and pure and was said to have great curative powers.
