Whaligoe Steps

Whaligoe Steps zigzag down the 250ft cliff face to give you access to Whaligoe Haven. When the Haven was used for herring fishing local women would carry the herring in baskets up the steps.

The journey down is spectacular but remember you will need to climb back up them as the only other way to access and leave the haven is by boat. Make sure everyone in your group has a head for heights too as there is only a low wall at the seaward side most of the way down and at the bottom it disappears completely leaving you feeling very exposed. Worth the effort though. Look out for wild flowers by the side of the steps and seabirds all around.
