Keiss Castle
If you’re travelling from John O’Groats to Wick along the coast road you will pass through Keiss. If you park at the car park on the High Street you can then take the coastal path that leads you to the old ruined Keiss Castle. It sits behind the newer mansion house that was built to replace it and right on the cliff edge. Unfortunately it’s not safe to go inside it but you can walk up close to it to get a feel for the history of the times. It was built in the late 16th century by the Earl of Caithness, George Sinclair and overlooks Sinclair Bay.
