Fair Isle

This small island measures only 5km by 3km and is 24 miles from Mainland Shetland. It has around 70 people living on the island, mostly on the south side. The Fair Isle Bird Observatory has been on the island for around 55 years doing scientific research. Visitors can visit and find out about their work. Fair Isle’s birds include Kittiwakes, Guillemots, Puffins, Fulmars, Skuas, Terns and Gannets as well as the rare Lanceolated Warbler, Pechora Pipit, and Pallas’s Grasshopper Warbler. The Lighthouse and the Museum are also worth a visit. There are lots of coastal walks for you to choose from where you can enjoy the views and the wildlife.
