On the western edge of the University of Aberdeen’s King’s College campus, the impressive Sir Duncan Rice Library is home to books and manuscripts covering 24 kilometres of shelving. The building was opened by Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh in September 2012. Designed by Danish architects Schmidt Hammer Lassen and named after Sir Duncan Rice, a former Principal of the university, the building itself has won numerous awards for its design, which reflects the ‘ice and light of the north’.
