Sumburgh Head Lighthouse

Sumburgh Head Lighthouse Visitor Centre and Nature Reserve was re-opened after a major refurbishment in 2014. It is now a top class attraction with lots to see.

The lighthouse itself has been fully refurbished allowing the visitor to see inside the Engine Room, Radar Hut, Smiddy, Foghorn, Muckle Roe Light and the Light Tower and get a real feel for what it would have been like to live and work there.

As well as this there is now an interactive Marine Life Centre over two floors where you can explore the marine life in the surrounding waters.

There are as many as 13 different viewing points which give you access to views of cliffs, seabirds, dolphins, the various parts of the lighthouse, over to Bressay and Noss, Sumburgh Airport, the Shetland coastline, Jarlhof, Toab, Old Scatness, Clevigarth, and even Fair Isle on a clear day.
