Neptune’s Staircase is a series of eight ‘locks’, raising boats and yachts travelling along the Caledonian Canal. Built by Thomas Telford in the early part of the 18th century, it takes over an hour and a half for boats to travel along it, making it the longest staircase lock in the country.
