Loch Garten Nature Reserve

Situated handily between Nethy Bridge and Boat of Garten Set, and among the stunning ancient Caledonian Pine Forest and in the shadows of Britain’s second highest mountain, Ben Macdui, Loch Garten Nature Reserve makes for a lovely day out for the whole family.

Run by the RSPB, the Nature Reserve boasts an array of spectacular wildlife all year round. Visitors can try and spot a number of species including ospreys, golden eyes, Scottish crossbills and capercaillie, while red squirrels and bank voles often pay a visit to the on-site feeders.

Two stunning walking trails – Big Pines trail and Two Lochs trail – offer scenic and tranquil strolls around the forest.

The centre also runs a number for nature activities for the whole family throughout the year, including guided walks, and you can even peek at their feeder cam online too.
