One of the central residencies of Scottish monarchs during the 16th and 17th centuries, Linlithgow Palace is now cared for by Historic Environment Scotland. Found 15 miles west of Edinburgh, only the ruins of the palace remain following a fire in the 18th century. The palace was also used as Wentworth Prison in the first season of Outlander.
