Kerrara is the island that you can see as you look out to the water from Oban. It’s a short 5 minute ferry trip to reach it but you feel that you have reached a land back in time.
There are no more than 50 inhabitants and only the locals are allowed cars so it is a very peaceful and quiet island. There are no shops although there is a Tea Garden beside the Castle.
Apart from the tranquillity, the wildlife and the terrific views of Oban it’s a good place to go walking or cycling. If you take a trip to Gylen Castle built by the McDougalls in 1587 and climb up to the top of the tower you can enjoy views over to Mull, Colonsay and Jura.
