For those with an interest in Scottish history, this beautiful ruined abbey has many stories to tell. Founded by King David I in the 12th century, over the years it hosted Scottish Parliament meetings and the signing of important treaties. Its beauty has inspired many artists, including composer Felix Mendelssohn. It is conveniently located next to Holyrood Palace and besides Holyrood Park, which is the largest park in Edinburgh.
