NextTravel to Edinburgh’s Stockbridge neighbourhood and you’ll find Golden Hare Books, an award-winning independent curator of books. Knowledgeable booksellers will guide you through their shelves – from new titles to old favourites they can’t wait to tell you about. First opening in 2012, you can even support them through their online shop, opened in 2020.
Although relatively small, Golden Hare Books certainly packs a punch. It was named the UK’s best independent book shop at the ‘British Book Awards’ and is well loved by those living in the capital. It opened in 2012 in Edinburgh’s Old Town but then moved to Stockbridge in the New Town a few years later.
It’s owners Julie Danskin and Alice Tarbuck are passionate about what they do. They even have a podcast called ‘Bibliophile’ where you can get great book recommendations. There is a wonderful atmosphere in the shop and it’s also very easy to find what you’re looking for. The staff are very knowledgeable and will be sure to help you with whatever query you have. There are also regular events, such as book signings, book launches, and poetry evenings.
