Designated as a Scheduled Monument, Fatlips Castle is a small, fortified tower sitting above the River Teviot. Standing at 26 feet high, the now renovated castle is said to have gained its unusual name from the habit of the family living there kissing their guests to welcome them – which was considered rather gauche in the 16th century.
