NextSleeps up to 16
Once a Castle of the Clan Gordon & situated just 2 miles from the royal burgh of Dornoch & its world-famous golf course, this 5* self-catering property offers unrivalled views over the Dornoch Firth and great luxury throughout.
Sleeping 8 – 16 in 8 generous, individually designed double bedrooms, all with an en-suite bathrooms, the property also boasts a well appointed, modern kitchen, a library, well-stocked whisky bar, sitting room, and a number of open fires and wood-burning stoves to cosy up to. Outside, there is lots to explore with a summerhouse, herb garden, tree-house, firepit, – and golf practice pitching area, complete with pond and bunker! There is plenty of space for children to play in the 8 acres of grounds and it is just a 10-minute walk down the path from the garden to the golden sands of Embo beach.
Some guests prefer to have breakfasts and anything from homely to celebration dinners cooked (and cleared up) for them, which is no problem at all.
Dornoch itself is a fabulous base from which to explore Sutherland – the UK’s least populous county, and the wider Northern Highlands. The town is just an hour from Inverness and just off the “North Coast 500” – Scotland’s answer to “Route 66”. It is home to possibly the best golf course in the world (with other great courses very close by). You will find glorious and deserted sandy beaches stretching for miles, astonishing scenery and spectacular wildlife. Dornoch itself is mostly built from golden sandstone; it contains a 13th century Cathedral, Bishops Palace/Castle, Courthouse and Town Jail, (now converted into one of the town’s many exciting, independent shops). There are also a number of very good restaurants, many focusing on locally caught seafood. All this, plus an interesting microclimate, which means it has an annual rainfall at about the same level as London!
