Dirleton Castle & Gardens

Thought to be one of the best castles in Scotland. This is a romantic 12th century castle with two beautiful gardens, the Victorian garden and the Arts and Crafts herbaceous border which is the longest in the world. Dirleton Castle is in the village of Dirleton but don’t be concerned if you go to Dirleton and can’t see the castle, just head for the gardens and enjoy their splendour and you will begin to see the castle as you walk through the trees.

Look out for De Vaux towers built in 1240, the drum tower, the dovecot with more than 1000 nesting boxes, the chapel and the pit prison. Enjoy a leisurely walk around the gardens, Learn about the history of this castle over the years and its connection to Robert the Bruce.
