Crookston House

Sleeps up to 6

Crookston House is Georgie’s family home, a property built by her Borthwick ancestors in 1816. She and her husband Malcolm have run it as a B&B since 2016, assisted by their two children. Despite the grand setting, the atmosphere is intimate and you can expect a warm welcome, with tea and shortbread by a roaring fire in the Ante Room, our guest sitting room. Crookston is the perfect place to unwind with three spacious bedrooms to choose from, they are well appointed and the exceptionally comfortable beds should inspire a sound night’s sleep. Georgie’s pampered hens provide eggs for breakfast, accompanied by her home made jams, marmalade and other locally sourced produce. You can linger at the table, enjoying the view over the grounds, whilst watching a vast range of birds. The fabulous grounds extend to 47 acres with paths meandering through magnificent trees, along the Armit Water and around a small pond. Wildlife abounds with numerous roe deer, otters, hares and a huge variety of birdlife, including tree creepers, nut hatches, dippers and owls to name a few. The grounds offer an array of colour throughout the year – drifts of snowdrops in the late winter, a magnificent show of daffodils in spring, rhododendrons and azaleas in the early summer and autumn colours in the back end. Malcolm and Georgie are always delighted to help you plan your itinerary, whether you are exploring the majestic Borders countryside, beach combing or golfing in East Lothian or heading for the culture and sites of Edinburgh. Tasty light suppers can be arranged at Crookston but there are a number of excellent dining options within a 20 minute drive.
