NextBrig o’Balgownie – originally named the Bridge of Don – is said to be Aberdeen’s oldest bridge, situated in the north of the city, just beyond Seaton Park. The bridge, which crosses the River Don, is a beautiful example of 13th century gothic architecture and has survived military attacks and heavy use as a major trade route – until, that is, a new Bridge of Don was built just along the river in 1830. Made from granite and sandstone, the bridge suffered significant damage in the middle of the 16th century and required extensive restoration in 1605.
