The Scottish home of the royal family, it has been a firm favourite with monarchs since 1852. Purchased by Prince Albert, husband to Queen Victoria, the castle remains a private property and is not owned by the Crown.
The Balmoral Castle you see now was finished in 1856, built after the original house was deemed too small. But this doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to see and see here, or that history is lacking. Sitting in over 50,000 acres, explore both in the castle and the grounds at your leisure. Guided tours are available.
