Edinburgh on a Shoestring

Guide

If you’re planning a trip to Edinburgh on a budget, don’t be put off by the city’s expensive reputation: the truth is you could easily fill an entire week with free attractions. With world-class museums and galleries to while away the hours while expanding your cultural and historical knowledge, innumerable picturesque parks and gardens to saunter round lazily and the timelessness of the medieval Old Town to explore at your leisure, it’s not difficult to spend days in Edinburgh and barely spend a penny. Re-enact your favourite movie scene at one the city’s famous film locations, enjoy slow travel on the extensive network of cycle routes or even soak up some (weak) sunshine at the beach (it’s a little-known fact that Scotland’s capital has, not one, but two beaches) – the shoestring choices are abundant.
