For a place as remote as Mull, it’s surprisingly easy to get to. There are three main ferries that go there:
The ferry from Oban to Craignure (Mull) takes around 45 minutes and can be booked in advance. The Lochaline to Fishnish (Mull) ferry is quicker; taking around 20 minutes. However, it can’t be booked in advance. Kilchoan to Tobermory (Mull) takes around 35 minutes and can’t be booked in advance.
You’re best to take a car onto the island if you want to be able to reach all the places you’re interested in. The transport is not ideal, but there is a bus service run by ‘West Coast Motors’, and taxis are available if you book in advance.
There are also a number of ferries from Mull to its surrounding islands: The ferry from Fionnphort (Mull) to Baile Mor (Iona) takes around 10 minutes and is foot passenger only.
The ferry to Ulva takes around five minutes and runs ‘on demand’.
