HIDDEN SCOTLAND JOURNEYS

EDINBURGH

ISSUE NO. 0001

Edinburgh is Scotland’s capital city and one of the most startling and beautiful cities in the world. It’s a bustling, exciting and charming place no matter when you decide to visit. Saluted as ‘the Athens of the North’ you can feel a sense of history just walking along many of its old romantic cobbled streets and narrow wynds whilst in constant awe of Edinburgh Castle sitting proudly over the city on top of a 700 million year old extinct volcano.

WHY VISIT?

This city attracts people from all over the world and takes them on a journey through its fascinating history, labyrinth of cobbled streets and its jam-packed festival schedule.

Edinburgh is a beautifully mixed contrast between its dark medieval old town and its modern Georgian New Town that make a lasting impression on its visitors, with many left wanting more and dreaming of a quick return.

If there was ever a place to get lost in, Edinburgh would be it.  The Old Town packs more historic buildings into a square mile than just about anywhere else in Britain and it begs out to be explored. Curiosity is often rewarded with an intoxicating mix of new and old, amazing eateries, coffee shops and unexpected views and surprises around every corner.

As the UK’s greenest city, you’re never far away from a green and leafy space to unwind, breathe and enjoy some peace and quiet from the busyness of Scotland’s most visited city.

DID YOU KNOW?

Scotland’s most famous castle is built on top a 700-million-year-extinct volcano in the centre of Edinburgh city called Castle Rock. As its name suggests, Castle Rock is more than 120 meters above sea level, towering over the surrounding city.

@EDIENTHUSIAST GUIDE TO EDINBURGH

ANN STREET

One of the most expensive streets in the UK, this hidden Georgian gem looks beautiful in every season.  The street was designed by Scottish painter Sir Henry Raeburn.

According to urban legend, J. M. Barrie, creator of Peter Pan, was so charmed by the setting that he based his novel Quality Street on it.

DEAN VILLAGE

It’s hard to believe this picturesque village by the Water of Leith is in the heart of the Scottish capital, just a short walk away from busy Princes Street. I particularly love visiting it at dusk, the blue hour makes it look pretty magical.

THE EDINBURGH GRAND

I love The Register Club situated on the 4th floor of The Edinburgh Grand. It’s the perfect oasis of calm, just a few steps away from the hustle and bustle of Princes Street. They also have the most amazing stairs.
