Edinburgh is Scotland’s Capital City and home to the famous Scottish Parliament building where you can take a tour and learn about Scotland’s political past. This city is truly international and attracts tourist from all over the world with its history, quaint cobbled streets and lots of festivals including the Edinburgh International Festival, Festival Fringe, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and of course Edinburgh’s Hogmanay. There is always something to see and do in Edinburgh.

THE ROYAL MILE

Royal Mile

The name was given to the main thoroughfare in the Old Town of Edinburgh, the Royal Mile is formed by the succession of streets. It runs downhill from Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace, two iconic landmarks of the city

EDINBURGH CASTLE

Start exploring the Royal Mile at Edinburgh Castle. There has been human activity on the rock since the 2nd century with the current royal castle a 12th-century addition. Allow two hours to explore the castle and its story, although you could spend much longer here.

SUNSET AT CARTON HILL

Calton Hill is one of Edinburgh’s main hills and you will find it right in the heart of the city. But it is not just the spectacular views at sunset but many monuments at the top, including the unfinished replica of the Parthenon in Athens. Easily accessible, it is a five-minute walks to the top. A popular place at any time of day but it takes on a certain romance in an evening, complete with a panoramic view of the city.

The Lookout by Gardener’s Cottage

This new restaurant is a must for locals and tourists alike. Not only does it offer an array of different menus but the panoramic views over the city and the Firth of Forth are outstanding.

The Lookout is part of the new City Observatory project at the top of Calton Hill. It’s glass walls allow all diners the opportunity of seeing the views. It is run by Gardener’s Cottage who are already a well-established and well-loved restaurant at the foot of Calton Hill.

one of the most expensive streets in the UK, this hidden Georgian gem looks beautiful in every season.  The street was designed by Scottish painter Sir Henry Raeburn. 

According to urban legend, J. M. Barrie, creator of Peter Pan, was so charmed by the setting that he based his novel Quality Street on it.

It’s hard to believe this picturesque village by the Water of Leith is in the heart of the Scottish capital, just a short walk away from busy Princes Street. I particularly love visiting it at dusk, the blue hour makes it look pretty magical.
