A WILD CAMP ON SUILVEN

By Simon Hird

Suilven is arguably one of the most iconic and recognisable mountains in Scotland. When you’ve seen Suilven, you really know you’ve seen it. At only 731 m high, a mere Graham, you would be excused for overlooking this mountain purely on metrics, but the experience from the top is truly remarkable. The isolated ridge offers superb views across Assynt’s unique cnoc-and-lochan landscape and across to the other towering monoliths dotted across the region. With an unseasonal weather window at the end of October, we decided to take the long walk in for a wild camp on the summit. With almost zero winds and clear skies, we spent a peaceful night feeling on top of the world.
